Community Business Branding

The Challenge

Milton Ulladulla Business Chamber (trading as Business Milton Ulladulla) came to us seeking help to establish a combined online presence for the businesses in the South Shoalhaven region and in particular the townships of Mollymook, Milton, Ulladulla and Burrill Lake.

As well as branding to encompass both the region and each township, they wanted a website to showcase the many businesses and experiences in the area to potential and repeat visitors.

The Solution

The first step in the project was to create a brand system comprising of a "parent" brand for the South Shoalhaven, and "child brands" for the four townships. Three different concepts were explored, all contemporary and fresh in feel, but each with a different stylistic focus (illustrative, geometric, iconographic).

The chosen illustrative concept uses an etching texture throughout to create an informal look and feel with a nod to the artisanal, reflecting the regional nature of the area, towns and small businesses.

The website was designed around the needs of those researching and planning a trip to the area, enabling them to quickly find businesses and services in key categories such as Stay, Eat & Drink and Shop. Powerful filtering allows them to narrow down their options, and detailed business listings present more about each business and give visitors the means to quickly get in touch, book or find out more from the business' own website or social media.

Particular spots around the website either showcase businesses at random or can be managed to show a particular set of businesses who pay to be featured, enabling the organisation to raise funds from the website to support their activities and membership.

The incorporation of a dynamic Instagram feed, news posts and upcoming events in the area combine to make a fresh, engaging online experience that has been built and produced in an SEO-friendly way, to support a growing presence in organic search results over the coming months and years.Site search
